Renew Adelaide, in partnership with the Port Adelaide Renewal Project, is calling for Expressions of Interests for the use of three small shop fronts in the centre of Port Adelaide. We are looking for dynamic, creative, start-up enterprises that mix a desire to produce a sustainable business with an active interest in enhancing the cultural life of Port Adelaide, and that will contribute to business already in the area.
The three spaces, situated in an iconic building on the corner of St Vincent and Commercial Roads, are small shop fronts facing onto the main intersection. They have planning approval for small retail ventures such as: fashion, books, music, retail galleries, toys, craft, home-wares, goods and furniture. They do not have the capacity to be used for office or hospitality industry ventures.
The spaces are being made available on a free, rolling, short term arrangement, with the aim of finding participants who can use this as a low pressure opportunity to build a unique business in sync with the revitalisation of the Port Adelaide area. As appropriate, participants will be supported to transition into a more stable, commercial lease within six to twelve months.
Rent will be free, but participants are expected to pay all out goings and costs, and commit to being open at least four days per week, including weekends. Some support will be offered in setting up and arranging insurances. Renew Adelaide will provide mentorship during the course of the first three month pilot, at which point the project will undergo review.
Priority will be given to enterprises that demonstrate a financial sustainability plan and a commitment to help revitalise the Port Adelaide area by bringing something new, unique and complementary to the area. Selection will be made in two stages, beginning with a review of Expressions of Interest, and followed by a secondary site inspection and interview with short listed applicants. The review panel includes representatives from Renew Adelaide, Vitalstatistix, local traders, and the Port Adelaide Renewal Project.
